no, just one summer spent in Japan long ago... I remember the catch phrases and how the language system works. I stilll have my lexicon and can transliterate the characters with help. Japanese is almost a computer language. Very logical and regular. It's fairly easy to learn with out Kanji characters, much harder if you're trying to learn classical Japanese.
